May, 2010 Meeting
Jim Frazier called the meeting to order. He thanked Cherie and Joe for their wonderful hospitality in having the meeting at their farm, Blue Chip Miniatures. The setting and food was wonderful!
Darlene Bridges gave the Invocation; then read the prior meeting minutes. Judith Powell made a motion to accept as read. Sheryl Owen 2nd, motion passed.
Dan Mershon gave the Treasurer’s report. There is $18,717.00 in the club account. That is an increase of $1457.00 from the March report. The main expenses for this month have been, $771.00 for EOY award jackets, $1200 for farm ad in MHW magazine, and $981 for ads in the Journal magazine. After the normal Spring Fling expenses and income we cleared $1470 compared to $1500 last year. Mary Frazier made a motion to accept as read. Judith Powell 2nd, motion passed.
Dan then gave a comparison of the 2009 to 2010 Spring Fling.
Stalls for 2009 were 283, 2010 were 266. There were roughly 24 less horses than last year. The Silent Auction was a real over the top success in 2010 it raised $1955 and in 2009 $137.
On that note Cherie made a motion to give Justine Melvin an “official” thank you for her hard work and tremendous donation of the Silent Auction items. Mary Frazier 2nd the motion, motion passed. Laura Bodenheimer agreed to handle sending it out to Justine.
A real big Thank You goes out to all who worked to make the Spring Fling show a success!
The Mini Fair coming up on May 15 in Columbus NC will be a learning event. We have decided to rent a tent along with tables & chairs in case of rain or extreme heat. Andy & Lucia Hunter are doing the food extra dessert items would be appreciated.
The upcoming Performance Classic June 19 & 20 is getting underway. A local church group does the food there. Shavings will come from Davis Feed & Supply. There are initially 80 stalls that we have leased. If we need more there are an additional 20. Stalls will be on a first come first served basis, and will be $35. When they are all allotted, exhibitors will be allowed to show out of their trailer for a fee of $35 per 2 horses.
Darlene Bridges mentioned that we will need ribbons to give out at the Performance Classic if exhibitors wish to exchange their coupons for a ribbon. Currently we only have Spring Fling ribbons. There were a couple of options. One to alter the existing ribbons to be able to use them at other than Spring Fling shows or two order ribbons that have the club logo, ECMHC, and placing. Cherie mad a motion to order ribbons. Trudy Mershon 2nd, motion passed.
Jim Frazier recognized several new folks at the meeting.
Claire Nienast made a presentation of a Girl Scout Silver Award project she would like to work on. A rescue ranch called “Bit Of Hope Ranch” { bitofhoperanch.org } would like a miniature horse to use for their program. Claire volunteers there to work with the horses & children the program helps. They need a donated gelding and everything the miniature horse would need. Another need is for electric fence tape to make the pastures suitable for the “little” guy.
Several folks donated items needed like 2 new halters & leads as well as a complete grooming kit.
Bobby Bridges made a motion to adjourn. Sheryl Owen 2nd and we did so and of on the Blue Chip Miniatures Barn Tour we all went.
