East Coast Miniature Horse Club Meeting August 16, 2014
The meeting was called to order by Darlene Bridges.
First we would like to thank Joe and Cherie Manderino for hosting the meeting at their farm.
Darlene gave the invocation.
Karen Hunter read the minutes from the May 31, 2014 meeting. Motion was made by Judy Roberts to accept the minutes as read, second by Trudy Mershon. All in favor, motion passed.
Dan Mershon read the treasures report giving the final figures for the Summer Classic. A motion was made by Russ Roberts to accept the Treasure’s Report, Randy Jane Crosier second the motion, all in favor, the motion passed.
Old Business –
The Summer Classic will be moving to Fletcher, NC for 2015. The show dates will be June 25 – 28, 2015. Because of losing money on this show in previous years, it has been decided to not have a hospitality stall, we will just provide water. We are applying for the AMHR Area 3 show so we won’t know what the class schedule or how many days we will need until that is decided.
We discussed renaming the Millie Smiley Sportsmanship Award but the majority of the attending members didn’t want to do that. Cyndy Enke has graciously volunteered to sponsor the awards. What was decided was to have a write up about Millie to go with the award so everyone would know more about her. We will also put the write up on the website for everyone to see.
We also discussed the money given to AMHA & AMHR every year. We have been giving $500 to each but with the decline in revenue without shows, it has become necessary to stop this donation. Shelia Eaton made the motion to end the donation, Russ Roberts second, all in favor, the motion passed.
The 2015 Spring Fling AMHR show will go back to 8 am for a start time.
Farm Ads – if there aren’t enough people to do a full page farm ad in the MHW and Journal then we will take it down to a half page ad. It will just depend on how many want to participate.
New Business –
With 2015 being the 10th Anniversary of the club, it has come the time to make some changes. The first will be a new and updated logo. We are open to ideas and would like for anyone wanting to submit a drawing to one of the officers. It will also be the 10th Anniversary of the Spring Fling.
We discussed some ideas for the club such as and open show, clinics and play dates. No decisions were made but we are open to ideas from the members.
The last thing discussed was the Year End Awards. We haven’t had very much participation in the last few years, 2014 was only 15 people and 70 horses, most of which didn’t show. We have talked about having fewer awards, having members pay to qualify for the awards but so far nothing has worked. So Cherie Manderino made a motion to stop the Year End Awards until a plan of action to make them better is made. Jim Frazier second the motion, 1 opposed, the motion passed. If anyone would like to work on the Year End awards and make a plan, we would like to hear from you about it.
The issues the club is having comes down to more money going out than coming in so until we can turn that around, we have to come up with other ideas and decrease the amount that goes out.
Cyndy Enke made a motion to adjourn the meeting, Trudy Mershon second; all in favor, motion passed and the meeting was closed.
